Bringing Long-Term Stability to the Child Care Market: Effective Workforce and Subsidy Policy Strategies
The early childhood system is the backbone of the economy but the COVID-19 public health emergency highlighted the cracks in the system both for families trying to access child care and the early childhood workforce. According to a recent McKinsey survey, 45% of women with kids from 0 to 5 years left their jobs due to a lack of child care. As parents, and especially women enter the workforce, increasing their access to affordable and quality child care is essential to their economic and social well-being. To accomplish this though, the early childhood workforce must also be supported and uplifted. This webinar will share insights from leading researchers on effective practices to recruit, retain, and advance child care workforce and strategies to support policies to increase access to affordable and quality child care through programs like the Child Care Development Fund (CCDF). The speakers for the webinar are:

o Lisa Rau (MEF Associates) to provide a landscape assessment of existing strategies to stabilize the child care workforce.
o Molly Michie (University of Virginia) to address the wage supplement strategy to improve childcare workforce retention.
o Gina Adams (Urban Institute) to address strategies to support parents access to early childhood programs through programs like CCDF
